I run timidity++ in daemon mode (timidity -iAD). It creates a new MIDI device, which I then select as the default MIDI device in KDE Control Center. Once done that, any KDE application will play MIDI files. Don't know if XMMS will do it, but kmid will for sure. []'s Marcelo
