I'm in a similar boat. I have installed and checked Sun java twice per
Stanton Finley's instructions. I don't have it listed in about:plugins
either.

Odd - I installed using SFs instructions, and it shows up in FF for me. Did you make the link?
Hi Anne. Thanks. Yes, I did make the links. I'm afraid the issue is:

[root@moe ~]# rpm -qa --qf '%{name}\t%{arch}\n' 'firefox*'
firefox i386
firefox x86_64

Investigating now how to proceed.

flash player (all) is 32 bit only.

if you want flash player, you will have to remove the x86_64

So is as simple as that Craig? Rpm -e firefox x86_64 and everything will work?
