That's right, but I don't know that there are vesa modes or a vesa BIOS on what is presumably Apple PPC hardware (never owned an Apple).

Newither have I owned an Apple PPC. At work the PPC units do not have integrated graphics (Embedded PPC unit running of flash). The video is on an Intel chipset. (another Embedded device running off compact flash.)
I guess posting on Apple OS problems would not be very accurate.
