OK - try this first...
rpm -ivh --force ftp://ftp.net.usf.edu/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386//os/Fedora/RPMS/fedora-release-5-5.noarch.rpm
(I don't generally like the 'force' option but in this case, it should be ok)
and if yum doesn't work after installing the fedora-release RPM all over again, please check to see the contents of your files match these...(I've set this to HTML to prevent wrapping of the URL's)
