Also, you say that I should install the i686 kernel, but I already have
that installed. What should I do now?
I did not say that, Jeff! The installation of the i686 kernel caused a
lot of booting problems, in my case. Thus, I installed back the i586
kernel and then downloaded the i586 kernel-devel and installed it (and
not the i686 one). In order to have VMware working, one needs to have
kernel and kernel-devel matching regarding i586 or i686. I am not sure
whether you will run into booting problems after installing the i586
kernel.
