Yes, put grub.conf back to it's original content (replace the vga=775 line with vga=normal) and modify the "screen" section in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to look like this: Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection EndSection FWIW, all I did was to add the "1280x1024" and "1024x768" entries in the 'Modes' line and then restart X and you should end up with your desired resolution(s).
