Instead of the generic LCD, maybe he should check the box at the bottom
to show the available monitors. His might be listed and therefore offer
more than the generic?
Yep, indeed. Also the command ddcprobe may help identify the monitor if
it's not obvious, although it doesn't seem to work with many TFT's for
whatever reason.
