You most likely using the xine/mplayer build it wmv support.
It'll most likely fail if you try running newer (WMP9/10) files.
Maybe when wine64 is released, Xine/Mplayer will be able to use its code
to run 64bit codecs taken from Vista's 64bit WMP (if and when Microsoft
finally releases a -64bit- version of WMP).
