I don't have that card, but I have an Intel 3945 in a Dell Inspiron...

Anyway, I notice there's a setting for the ipw2200 driver that
controls the led. It appears to default to off for the 2200 and on
for the 3945. I can toggle my led with this setting:

(Off)
# echo 0 > /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.1/0000:0c:00.0/led

(On)
# echo 1 > /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.1/0000:0c:00.0/led

$ modinfo ipw2200 | grep led
parm: led:enable led control on some systems (default 0 off)

$ modinfo ipw3945 | grep led
parm: led:enable led control (default 1 on)

Maybe that will help?
