I don't know if that matters, but I notice something that could be
interesting in xawtv's output:

# xawtv -hwscan
This is xawtv-3.95, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.17-1.2187_FC5.custom1)
looking for available devices
/dev/video0: OK [ -device /dev/video0 ]
    type : v4l
    name : Philips 680 webcam
    flags: capture

# xawtv -c /dev/video0
This is xawtv-3.95, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.17-1.2187_FC5.custom1)

v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway

X.org is running w/ ATI's fglrx video drivers. According
to /var/log/Xorg.0.log, the XVideo, XFree86-DGA modules are initialized, as
well as fglrx's DRI and VideoOverlay features.
