Thanks for your help but it seems that locating the right executable
is not the problem. Running eclipse from the command line seems to
shed some light on the problem:

$ export PATH=/opt/jdk1.5.0_08/bin:$PATH; eclipse

cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory]

I don't understand why it says libXt.so and libXext.so are missing
since I have both installed (32bit & 64bit flavors).
