Thanks for the corrections, Bob.
Yes, the kernel is 2.6.17-1.2174. Here are the last lines on the
console at the hang (typed in manually):
Total HugeTLB memory allocated, 0
VFS: Disk quotas dquot_6.5.1
Dquot-cache hash table entries: 512 (order 0, 4096 bytes)
SELinux: Registering netfilter hooks
Initializing Cryptographic API

- Added public key D4AD441F6DB3F282
- User ID: Red Hat, Inc. (Kernel Module GPG key)
io scheduler noop registered
io scheduler anticipatory registered
io scheduler deadline registered
io scheduler cfq registered (default)

The last "_" represents the blinking cursor
Any pointers as to where to check for error messages next would be
greatly appreciated.

You provided no information about the hang itself. If the kernel cannot
boot it always issues messages. The motherboard you are using is a brand
new Socket AM2 board, and it would be very helpful to provide the kernel
messages you are getting.
What are the messages?
Thanks

Hi all,
My ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard with AMD Athlon X2 3800+ would not
boot kernel 2.6.17-1.2471, whereas it booted 2.6.15-1.2054 fine.
Brand new install from FC5 downloaded media for x86_64.
Did a "yum update" to get the new kernel and the hang occurred.
I just filed Bugzilla report against FC5 kernel:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=205090
Any information gathering method or workaround would be appreciated.
