Gee, some of us learned C from it.  (Some of us even consider it the best
book for learning C.)  It also has the advantage of being much shorter than
most of the alternatives, as well as containing something very like the C
standard for reference.

It is not the best book for learning programming, but C would be a dreadful
choice for one's first programming language.
