    Run kmix, go to the "Input" tab, unselect all green check boxes, select
the red ones on capture and mic. You might also need to play a bit with
the "Switches" tab.
    amixer -c 0 sset Mic,0 100%,100% unmute cap
from the command line should do the trick also...
