I hope you did not enter it exactly as shown, unless remote_server
is the name of the remote machine. In any case, for it to work, the
remote machine must be configured to accept the connection, the
firewall must have port 177 open.

Now, as far as using ssh to run a specific program on a remote
machine, it still works fine as long as X forwarding is enabled in
ssh. You do not have to set DISPLAY because ssh takes care of it, as
well as everything else that is needed. But you do have to ssh from
the account that is logged into X on the local machine. It works
best if you ssh from a terminal opened in the X secession.
