One of the differences between Grub and Lilo is that Lilo creates a
backup file of the MBR when it is installed, and Grub does not. For
Lilo, the backups are /boot/boot.* files.

In any case, you are better off ether booting off a DOS boot disk
and using "fdisk /mbr" or booting off an XP CD and using fixmbr from
the recovery console.
