How to connect FC4 PC with windows PC

I have two boxes at home. One running windows xp and other running FC4.

I would like to connect them two together in a network using cross wire RJ45.

 

Can I connect them using the usual method by assigning 192.168.0.1 to the first and 192.168.0.2 to the second. With Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
