Gene: Don't you have an HP Pavilion? It it's anything like my ZX5000 there's a push button just above the touchpad that turns it off - it's probably not the case here, but I mention it because, as in the famous Edgar Allan Poe story "The Purloined Letter", the answer is sometimes staring you in the face ;-) If HP removed that feature, I would find that very annoying - sometimes I bump mine, or turn it on and forget to turn it off, and it always bites me unexpectedly when it gets left on - I know that aggravation well.

Nope, no button on this one.  Darn it...
