iftab changed... it do not work

Now iftab is:
lan0 mac 00:16:36:20:ce:52
wir0 mac 00:16:ce:1b:14:68

but
ifconfig lan0 return to me the message
lan0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

Maybe I do not understand the behavior of iftab

Bye
