Paul, I think it may be specific to certain networks. I have read a number of messages about problems with ipv6 and java plugins... http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6342561 I have tried do disable all use of ipv6 on my machine but have never been convinced it was completely disabled.
