My contempt for the mental processes of the X designers rose to new levels when I discovered that all you have to do is cut & paste numbersit already knows and prints in the log into the right columns in a ModeLine directive. Why X can't do this automatically is beyond my comprehension :-).
It's open source -- you're free to write the missing code.
