Bootup problem after installing Fedora Core_5 2006

Hi there,

I am under distressed for my Linux installation.  Pls someone help!

After installing the kernel by choosing packages selected for installation( in text mode) because it indicated not enough memory for GUI installation(existing 128MB, expected 256MB). I then chose packages selected to: standard one and software development, leaving out server pack not installed as not intended for use.

The whole installation took about 1hour 15 mins.
In text mode installation,  it detected and prompted whether to wipe out existing Linux partition(Mandrake Linux 2006 distribution) let Fedora to make a new layout by default. I answered "Yes" and ignored "Review and modify partitioning layout?(answer "No").
However, the installation didn't prompt for boot-loader choice at all,  fortunately, the system can reboot with a menu of choice to select Fedora or other as your preferred boot-up O.S. i.e. Windows XP Pro as 'other'.

However, system rebooted gave a strange behavior I don't know how to deal with it is it always asked for entering :

Localhost login:
password:

If not provided,  the system always be hanging in there..

This wasn't anything requested for my entries from installation but only usrname and password for the /root partition.
Therefore, I tried many way but couldn't have a clue in order to let the system bootup to normal KDE mode.
Can you tell what have gone wrong?  Hope you to give me some advice  to my email: claudeyu@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and thanks.
