That's certainly a wise thing to do, and it'll save you time and the hassle of badly burned CDs that seem to catch a lot of people (usually several CDs into the install, as Murphy would have it). > is there a reasonable way to create a "boot cd" from windows, given > that i have all the iso files? Any decent burner software ought to be able to handle the .iso images. But I have precious little experience with windows, so I can't recommend any. I don't believe that the built in burning tools do iso files properly. > fom your information, it appears that i could do : > -1) copy the 1st iso file image to a cd > -2) copy the rescue iso to a cd > -3) go through the mount process for the 1st cd, > extract/copy the boot.img file to the windows box, > and copy the image to a boot cd... > > this process would seem to get me the boot cd, which would then > allow me to proceed. It's more work than you need to do. You can grab the boot cd image (boot.iso) from the Fedora download site (or any mirror): http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386/os/images/ On a linux box you could also mount the iso image for the first cd directly and copy/burn the boot.iso file from there, but since it's so small it may well be easiest to just grab it from the web. :) > however, i would still have to figure out how to setup the NFS > process, and would need to know how/where to copy the ISO files... What is your existing linux box running?
