Can you do a couple of things?

run lsusb -v and post it with the device plugged in and when it is not
plugged in. If you don't have lsusb installed, yum it into your box.

also can you post the output from 'dmesg' that shows you inserting your
USB modem in, i.e. I don't need to see the entire contents of dmesg,
just the logs that show you inserting your modem.

Finally, r u sure it's not working? If the lights come on for the
modem, it may just be 'powering' up via the usb connection, but if
there's no driver yet, you might just be stuck...

P.S. You may want to look over on the 'linux-usb-devel' list for more
information...if you feel brave, you can post the information that I
listed there and see what they say as well! :)
