My drive is an one week old LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10A. I also have an old Hewlett-Packard CD-Writer Plus 8200 installed as the slave on the same IDE channel. I am running kernel 2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 under Fedora Core 4.

/dev/cdwriter1 being a link to the HP writer, I have modified the miniscript to test that drive.

$ sudo hdparm -c1 -d1 -u1 -a8 -k1 /dev/cdwriter1 && hdparm -v /dev/cdwriter1 && sudo eject /dev/cdwriter1 && hdparm -v /dev/cdwriter1 && sleep 10 && eject -T /dev/cdwriter1 && hdparm -v /dev/cdwriter1

The result? using_dma stays on.

The variables seems to be reduced to the following:
1) hdparm with symlink as device parameter
2) my LG DVD burner

Can someone with a different DVD brand verify that? I'd like to try ruling out my burner firmware from the picture :-)
