There is only one concern for me. If your colleagues' laptops are brand new, with new unsupported
hardware, I would avoid FC5 and go to something more stable. I have a 2 year old laptop and ever since FC4 it has been running smoothly with no problems. In the brand new Dell XPS I've had lots of problems...

I agree with your assessment, but would suggest you try Debian.
