irq allocation issues

Hi All -

I'm running 2.6.16-1.2080_FC5 and on an Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard and
am running into some interrupt issues. After a standard install and "yum
upgrade", I get the following allocations:

$ cat /proc/interrupts
           CPU0
  0: 545863 IO-APIC-edge timer
  1: 1197 IO-APIC-edge i8042
  5: 6911 IO-APIC-edge ohci_hcd:usb1, ivtv0, HDA Intel,
  ehci_hcd:usb2, eth0, ohci1394
  8: 0 IO-APIC-edge rtc
 10: 0 IO-APIC-edge libata
 11: 192 IO-APIC-edge libata
 12: 16413 IO-APIC-edge i8042
 14: 12700 IO-APIC-edge ide0
 15: 19231 IO-APIC-edge ide1
NMI: 87
LOC: 545865
ERR: 0
MIS: 0

I know PCI devices can share IRQs, but as soon as I start to send some
significant data through the network card, sound card(HDA Intel), or
capture card(ivtv), things get real flaky. I can ifdown/ifup the network
card and get it working for a bit, but it soon flakes out again.

I disabled the COM and Parallel ports and one of the ata controllers in
the BIOS and things got better:

  0: 2749443 IO-APIC-edge timer
  1: 3639 IO-APIC-edge i8042
  5: 648904 IO-APIC-edge ohci_hcd:usb2, ivtv0, HDA Intel,
  ohci1394
  7: 1740871 IO-APIC-edge ehci_hcd:usb1, eth0
  8: 0 IO-APIC-edge rtc
 11: 832597 IO-APIC-edge libata, nvidia
 12: 80012 IO-APIC-edge i8042
 14: 34466 IO-APIC-edge ide0
 15: 32815 IO-APIC-edge ide1
NMI: 596
LOC: 2749540
ERR: 0
MIS: 0

So now eth0 behaves well and stays up, but the capture card, sound card,
and firewire are all still on IRQ 5. Any thoughts on why all these
devices are getting assinged to IRQ 5? I tried setting "Plug and Play
OS" to both yes and no in the BIOS with no difference. I can reserve
IRQs in the BIOS, but not assign them to specific devices. I also tried
passing "acpi=noirq" to the kernel at start-up. It would be nice if some
of the devices got assigned to IRQs 3,4,6, and 9(the dmesg output below
mentions 'ACPI: IRQ9 used by override.') . What's going on here? I've
included some more output below. I've seen other posting of people
complaining of similar symptoms, but the only solutions I saw were to
switch a different distro/release.

Thanks in advance for any ideas,

Lonnie
