can you post also your /etc/modprobe.conf file?? The card is
recognized as Via...maybe it is already working ;-)

yes obviously it is recognized
;-) this is my modprobe.conf

alias snd-card-0 snd-cmipci
options snd-card-0 index=0
options snd-cmipci index=0
remove snd-cmipci { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-cmipci
alias eth0 ueagle-atm

please notice that I have an adsl usb modem (ueagle-atm)connected to the usb port
