check this empty script:

[rodolfoap] /home/rodolfoap > cat command
#!/bin/bash
[rodolfoap] /home/rodolfoap > if [ "$(./command)" == "" ]; \
then echo NOTHING; else echo SOMETHING; fi
NOTHING

Now we add some text to output:

[rodolfoap] /home/rodolfoap > echo echo hello>>command
[rodolfoap] /home/rodolfoap > if [ "$(./command)" == "" ]; \
then echo NOTHING; else echo SOMETHING; fi
SOMETHING
[rodolfoap] /home/rodolfoap >

Good luck!
