Is there a reason why you needed totem-xine in the first place?  Did you
try using the gstreamer-ffmpeg and gstreamer-plugins-ugly from livna?

The reason was my totem player didn't want to play avi's, so people just suggested I use totem-xine... but the latter did not work well with my computer...
