No ... It does not work.... at least like this.
To check this I first used disc1 which is sha1sum & media check OK. (on the same comp on the same cdrom).
# dd if=/dev/cdrom | sha1sum
dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error
1342144+0 records in
1342144+0 records out
0082b370216c3daaf1b12f839cca3f2f1794964f -
(Oh CD is mounted...)
# umount /media/cdrecorder
# dd if=/dev/cdrom | sha1sum
dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error
1342096+0 records in
1342096+0 records out
740ac3b431032ec9fbde94b44ad31ea47dbf2759 -
So it still doesnot work
correct SHA1SUM is
43546c0e0d1fc64b6b80fe1fa99fb6509af5c0a0 FC-5-i386-disc1.iso
Therefore I did not bother to check other OK/failed discs.
