Okay, I've been through this before with FC4. I just upgraded a system from Fc2 to FC5 and the upgrade went just fine until I rebooted. Now, I'm getting the dreaded

Kernel panic - attempt to kill init

message on boot. There's also a bizarre message saying there was no disk in /dev/hdd? What's the deal here?

I got something similar installing with reiser and without selinux. Check /boot/grub/grub.conf. Does the kernel line have root=LABEL=/ ? Is there a matching line in fstab? If so, try changing the LABEL=/ in both to the actual device (/dev/hdd?).

Hope this helps.
Dan.
