Hi, list. On my FC4 system I can not write to my 3-1/2 inch floppy drive, /dev/fd0. I can write to the floppy from Windows and SUSE 9.2 but not FC4. I checked fstab. The second floppy drive, /dev/fd1, has disappeared. # cat /etc/fstab # This file is edited by fstab-sync - see 'man fstab-sync' for details LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1 LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2 /dev/devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0 /dev/shm /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0 /dev/proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/sys /sys sysfs defaults 0 0 /dev/sda1 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hda12 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,utf8,managed 0 0 /dev/hdd /media/cdrecorder auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0 /dev/hdc /media/cdrom auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0 Ordinarily, I would not miss /dev/fd1 since it is a seldom used 5-1/4 inch drive. However, since the device has disappeared I cannot write to /dev/fd0. Here's what happens when I attempt to mount a floppy: # mount /dev/fd0 /media/floppy mount: block device /dev/fd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only I am running kernel-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4. The problem also occurs using kernel-2.6.15-1.1830_FC4. Here are the latest packages installed on the system: bind-chroot-9.3.1-18.FC4 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:10:24 PM PST bind-9.3.1-18.FC4 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:09:32 PM PST sendmail-cf-8.13.6-0.FC4.1 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:09:24 PM PST bind-utils-9.3.1-18.FC4 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:09:20 PM PST logwatch-7.2.1-1.fc4 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:09:15 PM PST tzdata-2006b-2.fc4 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:09:02 PM PST strace-4.5.14-0.FC4.1 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:08:44 PM PST sendmail-8.13.6-0.FC4.1 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:08:36 PM PST xterm-208-4.FC4 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:08:32 PM PST bind-libs-9.3.1-18.FC4 Wed 22 Mar 2006 12:07:43 PM PST squid-2.5.STABLE13-1.FC4 Wed 15 Mar 2006 05:27:58 PM PST db4-utils-4.3.27-5.fc4 Tue 14 Mar 2006 02:36:56 PM PST db4-devel-4.3.27-5.fc4 Tue 14 Mar 2006 02:36:38 PM PST gnupg-1.4.2.2-1 Tue 14 Mar 2006 02:36:17 PM PST db4-4.3.27-5.fc4 Tue 14 Mar 2006 02:35:14 PM PST slib-3a1-5.fc4 Tue 14 Mar 2006 02:35:09 PM PST shadow-utils-4.0.12-8.FC4 Tue 14 Mar 2006 02:35:02 PM PST tcsh-6.14-1.fc4.2 Sun 12 Mar 2006 12:58:47 PM PST net-tools-1.60-52.fc4.2 Fri 10 Mar 2006 06:20:06 PM PST system-config-bind-4.0.0-40_FC4 Fri 10 Mar 2006 12:17:54 AM PST ncurses-5.4-19.fc4 Tue 07 Mar 2006 11:30:54 PM PST ncurses-devel-5.4-19.fc4 Tue 07 Mar 2006 11:30:19 PM PST kernel-module-fglrx-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4-8.22.5.1-0.lvn.1.4 Fri 03 Mar 2006 01:20:15 PM PST kernel-doc-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 Thu 02 Mar 2006 05:14:04 PM PST kernel-devel-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 Thu 02 Mar 2006 05:08:12 PM PST kernel-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 Thu 02 Mar 2006 05:05:21 PM PST dhcp-3.0.2-34.FC4 Wed 01 Mar 2006 11:27:09 PM PST dhclient-3.0.2-34.FC4 Wed 01 Mar 2006 11:27:08 PM PST Any chance that one of these package caused the problem?
