There's nothing, I just did what Andy suggested, I checked the rules, they look good, just doing a scan of the machine with NMap to see what's filtered.

Hi,

Are you able to run the iptables command on its own? E.g.

/sbin/iptables -L

The iptables initscripts /etc/init.d/iptables is supposed to output some error even if something is amiss. Are you saying there is not even any error message too?

Hi people,
I am running a server in college at the minute. I just re installed it because (amoungst other things), IPTables wasn't doing anything. Now I have exactly the same iptables problem.

If I do:
service iptables start

I just get returned to the prompt, the same with /etc/init.d/iptables start.

Why am I getting no output, how can I get iptables to start please?

Cheers,
