mysqlclient problem when compiling bacula

I installed FC4 on a X86_64 box and am having problems. Specifically I am
trying to compile the bacula backup server, but the problem actually is that I
can't seem to get the system to recognize mysqlclient. I have searched and
found it on the system:

/usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so.14
/usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.14.0.0
/usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.14
/usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so.14.0.0
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.a
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so.14
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so.10.0.0
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.14.0.0
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.10.0.0
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient.so
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.14
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so.14.0.0
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so.10
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.10
/usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient.a
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/mysqlclient10-x86_64.conf

An ls of /etc/ld.so.conf shows mysql-i386.conf and mysql-x86_64.conf. Still
when I try to compile bacula, it tells me:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmysqlclient

I have seen a few posts on this, but following them didn't fix it. Can someone
help me figure this out?

Vicki
