On my Toshiba Satelite Pro A10, I just went to
desktop->adminstration->display and selected "Dual Head", ensured it was
switched on and left the settings as is - works a treat.
That would be nice... I'll try that when I get a chance.
I did get something else working though, using i855crt
http://sourceforge.net/projects/i855crt
It has a command that just mirrors what's on your lcd to the crt-out.
This worked better than anything else I've tried so far.
