I've been printing from Fedora to a Lexmark inkjet printer (Z51) via USB for more than a year without problem, but for some reason it no longer works. Printer is on, USB cable plugged in, hwbrowser recognizes it is connected... but print jobs get stuck in queue forever. Printer itself is OK; I connnected it to my Ubuntu laptop and printed a test page, no problem. I started from scratch. Deleted all printers in Printer config, recreated a new printer object, attached it to /dev/usb/lp0. If I click "CUPS Test page", nothing happens. Printer config dialog returns the following: I [14/Mar/2006:13:14:31 +0100] Adding start banner page "none" to job 22. I [14/Mar/2006:13:14:31 +0100] Adding end banner page "none" to job 22. I [14/Mar/2006:13:14:31 +0100] Job 22 queued on 'Z51' by 'root'. I [14/Mar/2006:13:14:31 +0100] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops (PID 12607) for job 22. I [14/Mar/2006:13:14:31 +0100] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip (PID 12608) for job 22. I [14/Mar/2006:13:14:31 +0100] Started backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb (PID 12609) for job 22. At this pint, gs goes to 100% CPU usage and eventually I have to kill it in terminal. Similar with the A4 Postscript test page: I [14/Mar/2006:13:11:04 +0100] Adding start banner page "none" to job 21. I [14/Mar/2006:13:11:04 +0100] Adding end banner page "none" to job 21. I [14/Mar/2006:13:11:06 +0100] Hint: Try setting the LogLevel to "debug" to find out more. At this point, I am stymied. Suggestions anyone? Running FC4, kernel 2.6.12-1.1398.
