I wanted to reduce the desktop icon sizes since it is too big for me.
I am trying to do this in Gnome, not in KDE since KDE is not installed
on FC5 by default.

Nautilus is (normally) used to draw the desktop, its "icon view
defaults" sets the icons for the desktop and inside file windows. You
can directly access it's controller through Desktop menu, Preferences
sub-menu, File management menu item.

THANKS! You answered my question also. I never imagined that the size of the ICONS was controlled through the file manager.
