See if it detected your hardware first. Look in /var/log/messages for
the time that you inserted the module and see if anything relevant

You might also try "cat /proc/scsi/scsi" and see what appears.

If that shows your scanner, then you've got the right module. Add:

alias scsi_hostadapter tmscsim

to /etc/modprobe.conf


I don't know whether it was that re-scan that did it, but that has already been added to modprobe.conf.

That should ensure that the tmscsim module is included in the initrd for any subsequent kernels you install, and it will get loaded early in the boot process.

What about sg, though?  Does that need an entry too?

In theory it should get loaded automatically when a scanner is detected on the SCSI bus at boot time.
