But don't forget Redhat inherits the bulk of what is in the distros from an "upstream" that is outside of Redhat (although of course the Redhat folks are active all over the place, esp Gnome). So this is not a one-way street nor do RHAT make out that it is. RHAT ship, say, Postfix or KDE only at the effort of packaging and distributing it. They don't create it singlehanded.... although they do look after security patches, which is great. As for 'diluting the value' that's completely the wrong way around IMO, the value of RHAT's work to the users is magnified *massively* by it being available to deploy for free. There's no value to the user in something that is only available at a price you can't afford. > has done.
