I have searched extensively for product compatibility, even using Red Hat's HCL database but was not able to find anything specific enough to tell me if a product would work or not.

It seems that Adaptec cards are well supported by FC4 and/or GNU/Linux, but again, I can't be sure. How about Tekram?

Adaptec support has been deteriorating, over the years. It's still ok on i386, but x86_64 has been broken for a while, and it's not the first time it broke, in recent memory.

Although -- as I said -- i386 still has a functional driver, stuff like this is a danger sign.
