Hi all,

I learned that Kernel 2.6 supports wireless network card, but I
failed
to configure D-Link DWL-650 card on my Compaq PRESARIO B2000 laptop
in
Fedora core 4.

After plugging the PCMCIA card, I use iwconfig to show the wireless
device. But I got following result.

# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
etho no wireless extensions.
sit0 no wireless extensions.

Could you anybody tell me why? Do I need to install other software
likes ndiswrapper or madwifi? Is it possible to use wireless device
without installing them?

My Fedora Core 4 kernel version is 2.6.15-1.1830_FC4.

Here is the information after I run command "lspci -v".

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212
802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
Subsystem: D-Link System Inc: Unknown device 3a12
        Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 10
        Memory at 54000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled]
[size=64K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2

Oh, good. www.madwifi.org.

You will need to rebuild the driver for each new kernel, but it's pretty simple.
