In this scenario, Instead of connecting the internet port of the WRT54G to the switch I would connect one of the switch/LAN ports of the WRT54G to the wired switch. At present you are using the WRT54G as a router, and for your plan it would work better if used as a switch/AP only. Now you would have one continuous network, with 2 switches. The DHCP server on the rest of your network provides addresses, and the WRT54G only provides an access point for wireless connection. There are devices that are access points only and are a little less expensive than the WRT54G (but not much).
