J< /var/log/lastlog just stores the last login time of each user, in a J< rather naive format. 64-bit machines support a very large number J< of J< user IDs (32 bits worth), and this makes the file incredibly huge J< (1.2TB). J< These days I don't think lastlog is used for much other than J< printing J< last login time when you login. It should probably go away, or at J< l east be converted to a more resonable format. J< I believe the master bug is J< https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=146214 , but J< it's J< not public. Another relevant bug is J< https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=163273 . J< See also the thread at J< https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2005-June/msg00308.html - J< Thanks Jason and to all that replied. I think that I'm not paranoid enough, yet, to have lastlog ever scanned. Quite an interesting file type though, that's for sure. -- G. Hare
