Re: FC4: yum is sleeping indefinitely

Hi Juan,

I don't have a solution for your problem specifically, but I suggest that
you use the
'screen' program when performing an unattended yum -y update. Screen
allows you to detach a terminal (or remote ssh login session) and then
re-attach it at a later point. Think of it as the textual equivalent of
vnc and its brethren, though screen has been around for much longer.

Screen has tons of info in the manpage, but the basic usage is as follows:

1) run screen
2) yum -y update
3) type: CTRL-A, CTRL-D to detach
4) walk away from the computer and enjoy a nice espresso. I like soy milk
in mine.
5) come back later (or login remotely via ssh) and type: screen -r
6) CTRL-D to exit screen

at this point, you'll see your yum program either waiting for user input
or hopefully completely finished.

Take care,
Tony
