I have had the most success with this method. I had some problems reading a mixed audio and data CD with some minor scratches on it with cdparanoia. Grip's native ripping tool (which is also based on the paranoia library, but may use a later version?) did a much better job of extracting the tracks. It worked faster and got more consistant reads of the audio data.
