It might be useful to understand what you are doing when you see this
error. Is there a pattern?
For example, a while back I had problems with this laptop coming back
from suspend which would manifest itself as a Machine check exception. I
found that booting with the "nomce" kernel option was a suitable
work-around until the core issue was fixed.
If you just want to get the machine back up and stable to regress a
change you made, this might do the trick.
Or, if the system really is hosed, it'll often just lock up instead of
generating an MCE. ;-)
