Go to <URL:http://www.dslreports.com>www.dslreports.com and check to see if you're less than 10K, or so, feet from your phone company's central office. If so, call Comcast and tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine,
   with a full explanation as to your motivations, then call Speakeasy and
order DSL. Thanks a lot for the dslreports site. It provides very helpful info on high speed internet provider.

If you are blessed geographically-wise, DSL will fare better even if it's slower and slightly more expensive.

Nothing beats a Linux-friendly provider.
