Not all quicktime files play properly with mplayer. I think some of
the newer quicktime files have unsupported audio codecs. For mplayer,
I would make sure I have installed all the available codecs including
win32 codecs from the mplayer web site.

I've found some quicktime files will play properly in xine, but not
mplayer, so I would suggest you also install xine.
