Huh.  Rebuilding on x86_64 worked for me.  I believe I followed the
same procedure as you describe.  Sounds about the same, at least, but
I probably would not notice any slight differences as it was a while
ago.

Yes, that is the plus side to a 32-bit build, which should be possible
to do on the x86_64 system as well.  I suspect there is not much
performance penalty for web browsing : ).
